In this article I am going to expose 5 widely accepted myths about calories. We all think we know about calories but do we actually?
1. Our bodies needs calories for fuel:
Wrong. A calorie is nothing but a simple unit of measurement. By definition a calorie is the unit of heat required to raise 1 gram of water by 1 degree Celsius. In today’s world a calorie is the amount of heat required to raise 1 kilo of water by 1 degree Celsius.
But our bodies don’t use mechanical energy; we need chemical energy to function. So to lose chest fat we need to focus on our carbohydrates and fat content rather than just calories.
2. All calories are equal:
Again not true. Our bodies use three different fuel sources carbohydrates, proteins and fats. They all are handled differently by the body. For example: every 100 carbohydrates we consume our body burns 10 to 15 in digestion process.
Similarly for every 100 fats we consume our body burns 5 to 10 in digestion. The real winner is protein: for every 100 protein we consume our body effectively burns 25 to 30 in digestion. So if you want to lose chest fat eat more protein, it is that simple.
3. Calorie in = calorie out:
Different calories are processed differently. Carbohydrates like glucose and starch are absorbed rapidly. Fiber on the other hand is slow to digest. The fact is that complex fiber from plants and whole grains blocks the digestion of other calories.
So if you have fiber rich diet than you are very likely to burn up to 25% of your daily calorie intake. You should try to consume between 40 to 50 grams of fiber every day.
4. Exercise will burn most of the calories:
Not even slightly close to being true. Not even the biggest fitness freaks manage to burn more than 30% of the daily calorie intake. Most of the calories are burned throughout the day using our body for everyday functions. Just keep moving constantly throughout the day and you will burn more calories than a 40 min exercise routine.
5. Low-calorie food aids weight loss:
That is not entirely true. Low-calorie foods are helpful but they are very weak. The best thing to do is eliminate sugar, if you want to reduce calories. Most of the food manufacturers are now replacing sugar with aspartame and other artificial sweeteners.
These chemicals are worse than real sugar and can increase your chances of obesity by 40%. Whatever you do stay far away from sodas and diet sodas as they are the number one reason for obesity today.
I hope the above information betters your understanding on how to lose chest fat and how calories work. The best way to eliminate a problem is to first truly understand it and then conquer it. I wish you all good luck in your fight against chest fat.
